PMDC
The best months to visit the Khewra Salt Mines are between October and March. During this period, the weather is mild and pleasant, making it easier to explore both the outdoor and underground areas comfortably. In the summer, temperatures in the surrounding areas can rise sharply, which might make travel less comfortable, although the temperature inside the mine remains relatively cool year-round (around 18°C).
ASTHMA RESORT AT KHEWRA MINES
Introduction
PMDC has established an asthma resort (to cure asthma developed by allergy) on the lines of Polish and Ukrainian Salt Mines with 10 beds and 50 seats for the patients.
Treatment
Every patient will have to spend at least 110 hours in microclimate underground. The patients are taken inside the mine for about 10 hours per day. This time may vary.
Achievements
So far encouraging results have been achieved. Efforts are on to make it more formidable.
There is a small town Khewra where you can find all the basic needs.
About 250 meters is from parking to mine entrance and about 1.5–2 kilometers inside the mine.
This can be done by walk and for those who prefer a quicker or less physically demanding way to explore, a small electric train takes visitors inside the mine. The train departs from the main entrance area.
Safety and Accessibility
The Khewra Salt Mines are well-lit and generally safe for visitors, with railings and pathways clearly marked. However, as the mine is deep underground, some visitors might find it challenging due to the enclosed spaces. For elderly or disabled visitors, the electric train is the best way to enjoy the mine without needing to walk long distances.
Wear Comfortable Shoes: The mine involves walking on uneven paths, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
Bring a Flashlight: Although the mine is well-lit, a small flashlight can enhance your experience.
