Siri Paye Meadows

• Clothing & Gear: Wear sturdy walking/hiking shoes and layered clothing. Even in summer the sun is strong, so bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. Nights (even in summer) can be very cold (often 3–5°C). A waterproof jacket is useful in case of mountain rain or snow.
• Supplies: Carry enough water and snacks; shops are scarce. Pack a small first-aid kit. Make sure your vehicle has a full fuel tank before leaving Balakot/Kaghan (there is no fuel station at Shogran or Siri Paye).
• Road Safety: The road to Siri Paye is unpaved, bumpy and muddy when wet. Travel slowly and preferably with an experienced driver. Avoid the ascent if heavy rain or snow is falling. Inform someone of your itinerary (Rescue 1122 covers the area).
• Altitude: At 3,058m you may feel mild altitude effects. Ascend gradually and take breaks. Children and elderly should be cautious.
• Families vs Solo: Siri Paye is generally safe for families (kids enjoy horse rides and open meadows). Camp only at established sites. Solo travellers should consider hiring a local guide/driver or joining a group. Night camping is possible (often arranged through Shogran hotels), but set up tents near the few rustic huts or campsites for safety and convenience.

Best Time To Visit: Siri Paye is open year-round, but summer (May–September) is ideal: the meadows are lush and wildflowers bloom profusely. Monsoon rains (July–August) occasionally bring thunderstorms or hail, so check weather reports. Winter (December–February) blankets the area in snow – a white wonderland for snow trekking, though the steep jeep road may be closed. Note that even summer nights are cold (Shogran’s night lows dip to ~3°C), so bring warm clothing. In short, aim for late spring to early autumn for the best combination of clear weather and green scenery.
