Reach From
Shogran
Nestled high in Kaghan Valley (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan), Siri Paye Meadows are an emerald alpine meadows (3,058 m/10,032 ft) ringed by soaring peaks. From the grassy plateau you enjoy panoramic views of Makra Peak and other snow capped mountains. In summer the slopes burst with alpine flowers (daisies, buttercups, etc.) and dense pine forests surround the higher reaches. The name “Siri” refers to the small lake at the meadow’s edge (it freezes in winter). Visitors can hike or ride horses through the ridge-line trails, relax by the clear lake, or camp under the stars. This peaceful, scenic “hidden jewel” is prized by trekkers and nature lovers seeking tranquillity and adventure.
Siri Paye itself has very limited facilities – essentially seasonal tents/cafes (a basic dhaba) and pit toilets at the camping area. Most services are in the nearby village of Shogran (2,362 m), about 6-7 km below.
Shopping (groceries, camping supplies) is minimal in Shogran, so stock up in Balakot/Kaghan valley.
Mobile/Internet: Coverage is patchy. In general Telenor (and often Zong) work best at Shogran/Siri Paye, other networks (Jazz/Warid/Mobilink, Ufone) are unreliable up here. Few hotels offer Wi-Fi.
Guides: Available in Shogran for extended treks (e.g. Makra Peak). If you plan to camp or trek, you can arrange guides through your hotel or local tour operators.
Best Time To Visit: Siri Paye is open year-round, but summer (May–September) is ideal: the meadows are lush and wildflowers bloom profusely. Monsoon rains (July–August) occasionally bring thunderstorms or hail, so check weather reports. Winter (December–February) blankets the area in snow – a white wonderland for snow trekking, though the steep jeep road may be closed. Note that even summer nights are cold (Shogran’s night lows dip to ~3°C), so bring warm clothing. In short, aim for late spring to early autumn for the best combination of clear weather and green scenery.
